I joined the club! / help identifying engine?

Hey everyone, I am now a member of the third gen owners clubs as of Saturday, and wanted to show my car and ask a few questions.
Here is the side of my car:

Here is the back:

The engine:

Now for the questions...
I am trying to identify the engine, as the previous owner swapped another engine into it. I found the number V0317FBM, and next to it was another number, but I couldn't read it well, and will have to take another look. The numbers behind the heads on both sides are difficult to get to, so I was unable to get those. Can anyone help??

Second, there were three items in the center console that I don't know the purpose of.
Two sides of a pigtail: The previous owner told me what it was for, but I can't quite recall...

Connector of some sort:

and finally, some cap:

Thanks in advance for all the help. I will look again to try to decipher the second number on the engine.

Peter

edit: I said in the message there'd be a picture of each side of the pigtail, but the url for the picture on the site I uploaded it had a curse word in the link, so it doesn't work here, but it's just one purple and one yellow wire.

The cap I don't know - maybe not even part of that car (I've never seen it) - but look at the seats - maybe goes on a seat (I'm unfamiliar with 'Bird seats).

The second pic - Oil Pressure Sending Unit - looks like the one that normally installs above the oil filter, but if this is a swapped motor, that newer motor might not have a mounting boss for it. ACTUALLY, it's sole function (if it takes 2 wires) is a backup circuit for the fuel pump in the event that the fuel pump relay or ECM stops working - it will allow you to start the car after a few seconds of constant cranking and 'limp' home until relay/ECM can be replaced. Usually, when the two wire OPSU is used above the oil filter, there's also another actual; OPSU that feeds oil pressure info to the guage, which is located just on driver side of distributor.

Is the car a manual or auto? If a manual, do your backup lights work? That connector lopoks like the reverse lights connector from the T5 tranny http://tpiparts.net/inc/sdetail/10962/2356 but could be something else as well.

Engine ID - ONLY way is to get the block casting nuimber off the rear of the block behind the driver side head - it's a real PITA to get in there and see - need brake cleaner, a brush to get in there with, a flashlight, and maybe a mirror to see it.

Best you can do is as stated above and look at block casting # from rear to identify engine size

Don't bother,
Is part of the VIN from vehicle engine originally came in and of no relevance now ( unless it matches the last digits in your VIN ; in which case you still have the original factory engine ).

The car was originally a manual, but was swapped to auto, so that may be why it isn't in place...

There is a tube of wires in the way mostly, so once I figure out how to get that out of the way, it looks like not much else is in the way... I'll take another look tomorrow since I'll have time, and see what I can find...

Also, I was googling FBM small block chevys and I saw somewhere in another forum that it means it's an 87 350. I will still try to get the casting number off it and let you guys know!
