Help Changing Spark Plugs 91 Camaro Z28

Hey. I need to replace all the spark plugs in my car. It's a 91 Camaro Z28. It has a 5.7L in it. Just wondering what tools will i need? How far to gap? How much to turn the screws? And any other helpful information or advice? Maybe a guide i can look at?
Thanks

Depends,do you have headers? If not should be fairly easy. Now the plugs in the back, especially on the passenger side may require you to get them from under the car.

Re: Help Changing Spark Plugs 91 Camaro Z28

All you need is a spark plug socket, few exentions, maybe a universal joint, and rachet. They can be a pain to change and take some time. Like ninety said, if you can't get them from the top go from the bottom. I changed all mine from the top and I have the stock manifolds on with A.I.R. still connected. They sucked none the less but I managed. When you pick the plugs up ask the parts people for the gap. I forget off hand what it is.

The plugs nearest to the firewall 1 & 3 can be reached from underneath. I like using a fine click universal ratchet.

I would change all plugs, all wires. Chances if one of any of these is bad, then the rest are not far behind.

I agree!! Also, make sure you get a spark plug socket that's padded on the inside! It prevents you from cracking the spark plug. I bought mine at sears (craftsman should be fine). I'm pretty sure its 5/8" size with a 3/8" drive. It also has a hex end which you can use a box end wrench which is really useful!

And like another user said, you NEED a u-joint! Make sure you use anti-seize on the threads of the new spark plugs.

Shouldnt take that long..It took me an afternoon in the driveway. Having the right tools helps!

Also, buy yourself a haynes manual. It tells you the gap info and torque specs for everything on the car. The instructions helps so much too on hard jobs.

Re: Help Changing Spark Plugs 91 Camaro Z28

well i just had my engine rebuilt and new spark plugs at the beginning of the year. Thats why i didnt think they were going bad. Is there a way to tell if its actually missing or do i just take the guys advice? A mechanic down the road from my house said he heard it missing as i drove by then listened again as i revved it. He said definately a miss. I just dont know why it mess up so soon. I understand how to replace everything now. I just want to make sure its necessary before i do?

Re: Help Changing Spark Plugs 91 Camaro Z28

Whenever I change the plugs I find it easier to snap them off with a few taps, then put a socket on them.Helps a tad because you can use a short socket instead of a deepwell.Just be carefull not to cut yourself.
