Please help me get back into my car

hello all, I locked my keys in my 84 camaro and can''t get back in. I have tried the coat hanger trick with little success. I have manual locks so there is no button to push, but rather the slider type of lock. In any case I read somewhere here that I could use a ruler to get back in. The instructions said to slide a ruler down between the handle and the lock, and that you will feel a rod, and then to push down on it and the lock will open. Well I tried all that and I found the rod between the handle and the lock, when I pushed down on the ruler the handle on the outside of the car pops out, but the lock hasn't opened. Do I need to be aggressive while using this technique to get the lock to open? Please help me out as my wallet is in my car and I have been at this all day.

Re: Please help me get back into my car

well I just got it open, used a thick paint stir stick, pushed down and then gave it a little extra pop on the top and just like that I am in. Hopefully this helps someone in the future.

Re: Please help me get back into my car

I did the same thing once.It hurt my feelings but I ended up just breaking the window. It happened again and the guy that showed up used an airbag to spread the window from the jam.I felt like a dumbass. There was enough room to get his arm in and manually disarm the lock.I paid $75 for nothing,I could have put an inner tube there and pumped it up.

Re: Please help me get back into my car

The ones that always tickle me, are the guys that won't spend $35 on Pop-A-Lock, but instead ruin $250 worth of window rubbers and door felts with a coat hanger.

Re: Please help me get back into my car

Yeah I was really careful when trying to access the car using a coat hanger, the area just to the rear of the passengers window, I put strips of tape to protect the paint and weatherstrip. Then as the time went on I decided there had to be a less invasive way to gain entry. Came to third gen.org and did a search and found the ruler trick. Works great.
