how do you replace water pump ?
how do you replace water pump ?
I have a 1982 TA with 305 and v belts and the water pump blew out today and I have removed the alternator and hoses and loosened the ac compressor and removed the belt and removed three of the bolts holding the pump on but the last bottom bolt that the power steering pump bracket blocks won't come out and it looks like the power steering pump must be removed but I can't figure out how. I have removed and loosened three bolts and a nut but I can't even get the belt loose.
Does the steering pump need to be removed or not?
What do I need to do, I need it up and running very soon.

Yes the PS pump must come off.
There are a bolt and a nut on the back, one nut on the front at the top, and one bolt on the front.
The "hidden" one on the rear is EXTREMELY easy to get from underneath the car. It goes on the little stud sticking through the slot in the bracket on the very center of this pic.
Too late for this now; but it SURE DOES HELP to take a car to the quarter car wash and blast the funk of the ages off of whatever part it is you know you're about to have to work on, right before you work on it. It's ALOT less difficult to work on something that looks like what's in the pic, than to fumble around under an inch of 25-yr-old schmutz.
No need to remove the pump itself from the brackets.

The bolt & nut on the back, and the bolt on the front, are adjusters (go through slots in the pump); the stud that the nut on the top in front goes onto is the pivot.
You have to remove all 4.
