Trouble Starting a Car That's Been Stored a Long Time
My dad has a 1990 Camaro RS with 19,000 miles on it. It's been sitting in his garage for about 10 years under a cover. He just recently got the itch to get it up and running.
He bought a new battery for it, checked the fluids, put some fresh gas in it, and tried starting it. It cranked fine, but wouldn't turn over. At this point he called me to see if I could help him out.
I figured out that it isn't getting fuel. I can hear the fuel pump running when I cycle the key, but I'm not getting any fuel up to the fuel rail. I thought the fuel filter might be plugged so I started to change it. But when I unhooked the fuel line, I got plenty of fuel through it. It was starting to get late so I had call it quits for the night.
I was wondering if you guys had any ideas about what's going on. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Try cleaning the injectors. After that pull the plugs and crank it a few times.Stick a piece of cloth string in a plug hole and see if it gets gas on it.If it does you got fuel.
Pull the number one plug and lay it on the rail and crank it,got spark? If not try the coil. I could go on and on but the fact is I'm only guessing and suggesting my method.Wait until someone comes along who knows better.

Re: Trouble Starting a Car That's Been Stored a Long Time
Fuel is never making it to the injectors. The car will fire up with a couple shots of starting fluid so I know fuel is my only problem.
It's a TBI so I could see no fuel was spraying out of the injectors. I took the fuel line off the throttle body and cycled the key. No fuel. I can hear the pump running so I'm guessing I have junk in the fuel lines.
Would it hurt the fuel pump at all if I blew compressed air back through the fuels lines to the tank?

Take the feed line loose before the filter and run a tube into a gas can or bucket and cycle the key on and off several times to run any junk and old fuel out of the line until you get some fresh fuel, assuming the filter is flowing hook it back up then take the line loose before the injectors and do the same thing. What are the results? If your getting fuel both times clean the injectors because your problem is there. If your not getting fuel after the filter, replace the filter. After that if your still not getting fuel,clean/or and replace the injectors..Clean the injectors really well, and try it again.Thats my best guess.I'm not too familiar with tbi,my 95 2500 chevy had it but thats the just of my hands on with it.
I guess it's clogged injectors,line or filter.

A defective Ignition control module can also cause the injectors not to fire. You might try replacing that, or at least having it tested (several times in a row so it heats up)
