Depends on which "stock" 350 heads you're talking about.
Swirlies are "stock" too, you know.
But they are pretty much the worst for flow.
OTOH, most other "stock" 350 heads have other problems that don't make them any more "desirable".
What's wrong with your existing 083s?

Re: Which is better? Stock 350 Heads, or Swirl-Port Heads
Soon I'm gonna buy a edelbrock runner set. I already have the hi flow base. Currently I have the swirl port heads in my IROC. Since I'm gonna pull the OEM intake manifold, I might as well pull the crappy heads too. So I was thinking about pulling some non swirl port heads from a junkyard that has an advantage over my swirlies. I'm just not sure if the "stock iroc heads" are better than the junk I have now. Why am I getting stock heads you may ask? Because I'm low on cash.

Stock IROC heads are much better. Make sure they're 083 heads.

Sweet. Thanks. Now I'm gonna investigate what are 083 heads. Thanks man.

083 are IROC 350 L98 heads. They are, basically, 350 IROC heads. The ones you'd want. They should be cheap and common and they're an improvement. i would expect around 20hp from them, more if you do something like an LT4 hotcam swap. They are fairly cheap, but cam swaps will always nickel and dime you to death if you're not careful.
Either way, just those heads should help by themselves.
Vortecs are excellent heads, but sicne you already have a normal pattern manifold, I'd save the money you would have spent on vortec heads and parts for a cam swap if you just want to blow an extra $300. A Hotcam setup will make for a very nice running engine.

InfernalVortex, Thanks for the info. Yeah man I already have the normal Edelbrock Hi FLow base. Im planning on buying a set of 083's and having them P & P until I can afford a set of aluminums. I already have a LT1 cam stabbed in my block. So the cam is good to go.

But is the Hotcam compatible with my OEM MemCal? I stabbed the LT1 Cam because I read that the LT1 is a good upgrade and that it is compatible (Computer Controlled).

It will take more work and be a bigger PITA, but more power is always a bigger pain in the ***.
But it was a GM Performance Parts upgrade for the LT1 guys to put on their corvettes and Camaros. It may not be compatible with your stock tune, but it is possible to program your ecm to run it. It's GM's cam.
Im not saying you SHOULD do it. you've got a decent cam and you've got decent heads. But if you have the urge to push things a little farther, those Hotcams are available and relatively cheap if you can find one used. It's a good cheap way to get a big roller cam. Do some research on whether 083 heads can handle that much lift, but remember with stock rockers it will only be .500 lift, not .525.

Alright. That is well worth the investigation. Yeah. I was looking at the Scorpion 1.6 S/A RR and the Comp Cams Magnum 1.6 S/A RR too. But I gotta take things one at a time. Time is money and money is tight. But I will get the job done in time. I apreciate the help and advice InfernalVortex. Thank you so much.
