Please Help, My Emergency Brake Is Stuck

Hello everyone,

So I recently purchased a rebuilt hatch motor off of Ebay, and today, I finally put it in and saw the inside of my trunk for the first time in 2 years. So, there I was, ecstatic that I got it working, and went on to hook the truck switch back up in between the power window switches.

When I took the shifter bezel out to access the hatch switch wires, I like to be easy with the bezel by shifting into the D position so I have some more room to work it out, which means I put the Emergency Brake on to avoid working and rolling. When I completed the job, however, I was (and still am) unable to get the E brake off. It is stuck in the position it is in and will not budge a single 1/16" in either direction. I took everything apart and studied it's mechanics and cannot figure out why it is stuck up. Any help would be massively appreciated. Thanks everyone.

-Dan

rear disc or drum? does the button push in or did you yank it really far back?

The button is stuck in the down position, I'm afraid to admit that it is pulled back fairly far back, as in, as far back as it can go. And the rear brakes are disc.

Might be a two man job. Take the rear wheels off, and while someone is inside the car doing the release action on the lever, you can try to pry the cables/pushrods back.

If it's the front cable that's seized, you might be able to pull it back from underneath while someone releases from inside.

Re: Please Help, My Emergency Brake Is Stuck

I also finally fixed the problem. When I had pulled the E Brake back the first time, the button had split in half, somehow, and when I couldn't get it to work, I kept pulling and pulling until I got it past the last click that is even possible.

Solution: Removed the entire center console array, then removed the E-Brake assembly and used leverage to get it back over the last click. CAUTION: E-BRAKE HANDLE HAS AXE-CUTTING ACTION ONCE PUT BACK ONTO TRACK.

It nearly got my hand. Thanks everyone. And remember, 347,698,456 clicks and you've probably gone too far.
