i have a 3in exhaust all the way back, and i'm wondering for those of you who have this too, how you can remove the starter on a 350. i noticed that exhaust is too big to let the starter to be able to slide down between the exhaust and A arm. you suppose i would need to unbolt the exhaust?

Mine is only 3" back to the muffler, but I doubt the tailpipes matter much...

No problem here.

I have SLP 1¾" headers, the 3" Y-pipe, the "big oval" 4-bolt cat, and 3" back to the muffler.

Starter comes RIGHT OUT. Never have to unbolt anything except the starter.

Used to have Edelbrock TES in the car; also the ones with the large Y-pipe for the 4-bolt cat. Same deal: starter came RIGHT OUT with no hesitation reservation or equivocation. Gravity was highly effective.

Same when the car still had the manifolds. Although back then, I still had the stock L69 "big oval" Y-pipe with them.

Re: who has a 3in exhaust all the way back?

I used to have problems with heat soak with the end of the starter sitting practically on the Y pipe so I bought this. It has more material than the conventional starter wrap that way I could even put some were I think it needed it most,on the end of the starter closest to the pipe. Maybe its just luck but I have not had to replace my starter in over 3 years. If I had to unbolt the exhaust pipe to change it I would definitely wrap it. This is a adhesive type but don't peal all of the backing off, only were you want it to stick to the starter or over lap because if you unwrap it all it will grab the hole out side casing and you will never get it off, instead I used two large hose clamps just like the traditional one.

I you don't want to go threw the hassle then there's this, but it leaves the end exposed = http://www.summitracing.com/parts/THE-14150/?rtype=10
