What could this be?

EDIT: i didn't know where this question really fit in so please forgive if you feel it belongs in another forum.
EDIT: after a quick smoke break and some hard visualization/thinking i believe it to be the heatshield. Any thoughts?

89 formula 350

This morning i noticed something hanging under the car. I was in a rush to go to work but i couldn't tell if it was plastic or metal. I was driving it just fine and i suspect its just some type of splash guard?? but it is hanging right behind the bend of the y pipe and is almost like a cirular/conish shape and ideas anyone? its very thin so either sheet metal or plastic and has a big hole in it.

On good news. I had a bent axle in my 9 bolt and swapped out with a rearend from a 95 with 373 and she is running like a champ again. B&M megashifter going in some time this week.

i also heard a wierd sound but i suspect it is just what ever is hanging vibrating due to the fact my exhaust is currently removed after the y pipe.

any help on identifying what this may be will be greatly appreciated if no one knows time to bust out the jack.

That would be a possibility but when i had the car the y pipe was cracked about an inch long and was hanging a little, so i ripped off the whole exhaust from that crack back. So that would be ruled out. I probably should of mentioned that in the original posting my bad! sorry!

That's what i thought but it wasn't the case. It was some sort of dust cover over the torque converter and what not.
