12-22 PSI FUEL

I have a fuel pressure gage on it right now. and the most fp I get is about 22 psi. the car will idle but will buck when I try to give it gas in gear or out. Does this mean my fuel pump is going bad? Do you thing the filter could be clogged that bad lol? and what pump should I buy if it is the prob?

Re: 12-22 PSI FUEL

If you're running a TPI, then that fuel pressure is very low. Do you have an adjustable fuel pressure regulator? If so, check your setting. You might also want to check the diaphragm in the fuel pressure regulator itself. You may have ruptured it and it can't maintain proper pressure anymore. Best way to check is to pull off the vacuum hose that goes to it. If fuel is present in there, change out the diaphragm.

From there, I'd go from easiest to hardest. Change out fuel filter, blow compressed air through the lines to make sure there are no blockages, and lastly, if the fuel pump is failing, change that.

I went with a Walbro 255 with Hotwire kit for my car. Was a pretty good price, but dropping the tank isn't too bad.

No I don't have a afp. With the pressure gage hooked up, I would only get 12-22 psi of pressure but it would hold what it had. the pressure wouldn"t bleed off to fast. Also is the Bosch fuel pump kit from advance andy good? I hve hurd there are good ones and bad, are there specific pumps to avoid?

Re: 12-22 PSI FUEL

Personally, I wouldn't trust a pump from Bosch. Get AC Delco, or a good aftermarket from Walbro. I'd still check to make sure that the fuel pressure regulator diaphragm isn't torn if I were you. That's a fire hazard if you're leaking fuel there.

I'd do the easy stuff like replacing the fuel filter and blowing out the fuel system with compressed air first to make sure you get blockages out. It's cheaper and a whole lot easier than dropping the tank.
