Pedal Differences

Just curious about the differences between the brake/clutch pedal assembly for a hydraulic clutch and one for a linkage clutch? Thanks!

Re: Pedal Differences

Yes they are different.

No you cannot interchange hydraulics onto a linkage pedal or vice-versa.

Easy to just swap out the whole pedal assy though.

Re: Pedal Differences

Thanks. So what is different between the two. The reason I ask is because, in the past, I've seen listings on ebay that just say "clutch pedal assembly" and they don't really specify if it's for a hydraulic clutch or not. Chances are they are for a hydraulic set up but I was wondering if there was an easy way to tell just by looking at them.

Last night I saw a listing for 82-83 Camaro Z-bars on Ebay, and the guy has 6 for sale. But the price he wants for one is way too rich for me...could probably buy everything needed to convert to a hydraulic clutch for the price of one of the z-bars.

Is it really too much of a PITA to adapt hydraulics to a linkage pedal assembly...just read about someone doing it to their chevy truck on another website and that's got me wondering....I figure it might be worth a try.

Yes.

Everything.

The place the pedal attaches to the rest of the system is different.

It's all downhill from there.

Look at what you've got. If it doesn't look like that, it's the other one.

If you don't have one, go to the junkyard. Take a pic.

No they will not interchange. No it is not too much of a PITA to adapt the one to the other: 2 easy steps:

1. Take out the one you don't want.

2. Put in the other one.

There. Not so tough, eh?

No sense in trying to outsmart yourself over it. They're different and don't interchange. That's all you need to know.

If you have a linkage system, I highly recommend you take it out and throw it in the trash, like I did my 83 back in about 86 or so, and put in a hyd system. Or, sell all that Stone Age crap to some "greater fool" that has spent the last 30 years under a rock.

Re: Pedal Differences

Oh ok, thanks! I haven't had the time to really look at the car, I've been working on my 85 Suburban replacing the engine...should have that done Friday. The last time I was looking around for the hydraulic pedals, none of the yards I went to had what I needed. There were some 3rd gen camaros there but they were all automatics. I'm hoping to go shopping at the pull a part Sunday tho.
