wont crank

84 z28 305 H.O.....car drove then after parked and turnd off, now the car wont even crank, when i turn the key to on nothing happens at all no gauges, radio, windows are down and cant get them up, no nothing, the headlights come on when i turn them on but thats it...and BATTERY is GOOD reads 12.7 volts. receently repalced the starter. my brother was the one who pulled the starter like 3 months ago (its his car) i put the starter in today. pretty sure i hooked it up right, the 2 big cables on b+ terminal and the little wire on the S terminal, nothing on the R terminal...i checked for power going to the starter its reading 12 v at the starter, also had the starter checked and its good. so the fact theres no power in the car im thinking maybe the ignition switch?? if so how do i check it with a volt meter, thanks

Re: wont crank

check the battery cables-on some battery cables the
strands are aluminum and can corrode and break
connection when disturbed...

Re: wont crank

it sounds like an ignition issue to me, what id do is pull the ignition and start checking wires to see if any of them are getting power. maybe it is something silly like a fuse

I have a 89 rs 305 and the exact thing just happened to me. I have replaced the starter, all switches inside the column even the dimmer switch since I was in there. All fuses are good and still nothing when I turn the key. They gauges light up, the dinger dings the buzzer buzzes when lights are left on, but nothing to the starter. Any help???

Re: wont crank

Check the connections to the battery, and also check your fusible links, see if you burned them out.
