is my car ****ed
A few days ago I changed my thermostat from a Mr.Gasket 180... temp would originally reach reach 235 then shoot down to 180 approximately. Someone on this forum informed me that I should install a higher temp thermo. I installed a Murray failsafe 195. It Went to 265 and that's when I noticed smoke coming from the resiviour. I shut it off. Later that day after limping the car to work I decided to change it back to the Mr.gasket. I noticed the resiviour was empty and the radiator was near empty. And the intake I couldn't see water. I refilled it. And when I ran the car the temp hit 255 and came down to 210 not 180

Id keep a 190 stat in it. Start trouble shooting.
Are there any leaks? Exhaust pipe? water in oil ? Water on ground? Water in pass. side floor board, etc.
If non f the above Did you make sure you got all the air out of the system.
Is your water pump working and circulating water.
Are your Fans working
#1 is your air dam still attached under the car?
How long has it been doing this? What has changed?

Could be thermostat in backwards, blockage in radiator/engine, collapsed hose, faulty waterpump, air in system, lack of coolant. Try temporarily running with no thermostat and see what temps you get, should be very low to non measurable on gauge. This will help isolate problem if your not getting any visual ques: white smoke out exhaust, leaks on pass floor, ground etc.
