I have an 89 bird 5.0 formula. The air pump went out up north and fly wheel and serpentine belt fell to the ground many miles from home. The garage just put on a smaller belt and took off pump. My question....Is there anything else that I need to do or can I just run it like this. Am thinking the car should run richer without air being thrown at the oxgen sensor in the exhaust manifold. But the computer should adjust to the richer mixture???? Right???? Do I need to plug anything up on the engine. I have not picked the bird up yet so would like to know ahead of time. thanks

 

Need help on air pump demise...

 

The air pump only sends air upstream from the O2 sensor during warm up/open loop. You can reprogram your ECM to always tell the system the air pump is diverted if you like, but the effect on how the engine runs is rarely, if ever, noticeable.

 

you will be fine, no need to stress about it. Exports didn't even have smog pumps and used the same ecm calibrations/
