I just want to make sure I'm on the right track with what I'm doing to my car. (83 Z28, 305 w/5spd) The PO swapped out the distributor for a regular HEI unit. I remember then he said he had to start messing with the carb. In order to get things right, I need to get a non computer carburetor, right?

 

Correct. If you go non-computer controlled on eithr you do both.

 

Why not put back the correct cc dist to get things right?

 

Because I'm not sure about what's been hacked out or just missing. I'm sure there is a reason the PO swapped out the distributor, I just can't remember right now. I have an edelbrock q-jet I'm going to rebuild and put on there...got the carb for free.
