Any Ideas What This Line Might Be?

OK, I don't have a pic cause I yanked it out but I can easily describe it. It has me stumped as to if this should be there at all.

There was a rubber, vac-like line/hose that layed in the engine bay with its end plugged (with a golf tee of all things!). The other end ran through a small hole in the firewall and came out into the open air cavity under the screen mesh where the wiper arms are, in front of the windshield, on driver side.........

Is anyone aware of any fresh air vented hose that is releasing air to - or pulling air from - that cavity??

89 Pontiac Formula, 350 TPI.

No, it's not that. The wiper fluid lines run on top of/near the screened area and then to the wiper arms, etc.

This is not a fluid line - it's air - although this is the same kind and size of hose.

This goes low, from the engine compartment, through the firewall, and just sits open-ended (lays) in the recessed cavity below the wiper arm and below the screen on the driver's side.

Doesn't ring any bells. And doesn't sound like a factory line. Only vacuum line going through the firewall I'm aware of is for the HVAC controls. And it routes through on the passenger side near the heater box with the main wiring harness.

Could it be a drain of some sort a previous owner installed?

^^ Possible.

Does anything under the hood need to vent fresh air in from an outside source (besides the air intake & carbon cannister air inlet line)???
