how much should i pay for this car?

92 camaro rs 205,000 miles
ac compressor doesnt kick on, doesnt blow air at all. open headers( witch he says you cant drive because it will melt the clutch? btw he claims the reason why you have to pump the clutch 100x to get it to shift is simply because there is an air bubble in the lines. there is an oil leak comming from the top of the transmission and btw i can see through the space inbetween the trans and engine. it has the 3.1l v6, and im not hearing any problems because the headers are so loud. the body is ok, no dents, and paint is ok.

what should i be paying for this car?
what is a realistic offer?
is it worth the hastle?

He sounds like he doesnt really know too much. With that many miles and if the body is ok,as well as the engine..Id say like 2000-2500 Max. My cost 2000 with significant body damage, and a motor with rust in the cylinder walls and more problems. And that was too much.

Re: how much should i pay for this car?

hard to day without pics. One man's "OK" is another man's "no way"

rust?
interior?

With the problems you listed, it sounds like a car you should forget about, unless the body and interior are REALLY nice, and you can get it cheap (like $500)

can you do the work yourself? Pull the transmission, fix the leak? (it might be the main seal)
why in god's name would anybody put open headers on any car, but especially a V6?

sounds like a car that was owned by a moron, which is enough reason by itself to walk away

What are you looking for a driver? A body?

If the body and interior are nice offer 500 and swap the engine and the trans with a V8

for what that would cost he might as well just buy a nice car with a V8. You ever looked into all the things that have to be changed to do a V8 swap? unless you have a donor car, it's a real PITA, and never worth it

if the car is nice, the problems he's describing are fixable. I just doubt the car is nice from the jackleg way the engine has been cared for

$500 and he's lucky to get that imo for anything that has over 200k. Especially since it will cost you at least that much to fix what you know is wrong with it not to mention what you don't know is wrong or what he's not telling you.

interior interior interior

people will salivate if you have an uncracked dash to sell, or low cost weatherstripping in great shape, unfaded panels, untorn seats, rear hatch motor etc etc

I'd view it as a parts car

You're basically buying a roller with an interior in it. $500-1,000 at most.

Re: how much should i pay for this car?

Given that I paid $3k for a nice (new paint) 92 Z with manual.... I would say less than $1k.... As I have learned with every third gen I have ever bought... Its the problems you CAN'T see when you buy it. My $3k car still took $1k to get running nicely.

Interiors are cheaper than powertrains....
