Wow, water pump swap was way easier than I thought
I was pretty happy to learn how easy it was to change out the water pump on my '89 5.7 TPI. Just 4 bolts and one hose clamp. The only tough part was putting on the new serpentine belt even with the idler turned hard over. I was glad I took a few pictures with my cell phone on the belt routing.
Using a large screwdriver, I coaxed the belt on and I was done.

Yeah that's the good thing about these cars. They're mad easy to work on.

The serpetine setups are by far the easiest water pump swap of any car I've ever worked on. Nothing obstructs access to it and there aren't any other brackets bolted to it like on old V-belt setups. Drianing and filling the coolant takes longer than changing the pump!
