egr valve help
so i decided to take apart my egr to see if maybe thats whats been causing the problem. and in fact, it was stuck open. so bought one from autozone. they sold me an egr model no. EGR132.
SO heres the new problem. this thing comes with 11 different orifice washers and a fitment guide that tells you exactly what washer to use. only thing is, i dont have the original egr, so i couldnt figure out which to use.
called up chevy, they said for my make and model, ( 88 ponty firebird 305 tbi class E automatic), my original part no. is 17113496.
went back to the list, and that part number doesnt exist on my list!!!! (fmfl!!)
help again guys,
has anyone replaced their EGR and still remember what size orifice washer they used?? id greatly appreciate it.
( btw, the egr that was on the car didnt have the washer if not id compare them..shitty mechanics in miami i tell you)

Re: egr valve help
I'd pick the one from the smaller middle size, see how it runs. The egr is device that helps lower emissions(NOX), & helps w/ spark knock. So its not like a requirement, like exact fuel pressure. Do you have emission testing?
Alot of mechanics used to use those washers to get the egr to work good, the egr only opens at part throttle, closes at idle. So if it opens to quickly, in the case of a large orfice, the engine would surge, so they'd put a smaller one in.
