So one day I come to try and start my camaro it starts up, idles real high and dies I do it again and again, I open the hood and find the hoses on the charcoal purge canister disconnected, I reconnect them and try starting the car again it won't start, it turns over but seems like there's no fuel Comming in, I found out my fuel pump isn't Comming on when I turn the key, I checked the relay and the fuses, what else? Btw my RS was a v8 but was converted to v6, please help, before I do all this work pulling the pump out. Thank you.

 

well my fuel pump went out also. a good thing to check is the fuel filter. blow air through the flow, if thats pretty dirty, chances are your pump is bad. another thing you could do it go to the fuel pressure test valve and while someone twists the key, not to turn it on though. press the needle in there and you will see if fuel atleast reaches the fuel block.

 

Yea did the test valve and no fuel came out, and the location of the fuel filter? I'm just switching from import to American so idk too much about my camaro

 

the fuel filter is located on the rear of the car close to the driver side rear wheel.

 

hey not trying to jack the thread but im having the same issue, my question before i drop the tank, can a fuel relay sound as if its working but in reality be faulty?

 

I'm going to add to this thread instead of starting a new one. My fuel pump is dead as well....seems many of us have these issues, funny thing is I changed mine 6 months ago, now broken again....

I know that there is a "prime" plug by the relay that if you run 12 volts to directly will make the fuel pump run. My question is that in all cars I have seen this as a black plug with a single red wire. This is what my 90 RS has:


Is this the prime on my car? Just like the OP, I have checked my fuse & it is good, so I don't want to go through the nightmare of changing out the pump if it's something else, especially since my pump is only 6 months old.

 

damn are the rs's going on strike or something?

 

I'm gona try running the 12volts to that plug , my cars jacked in the air ready to pull this pump out, so any suggestions to check other things will help

 

well for starters i would see how the plugs are doing and i would check any abnormal things on the pump to see if anythings going on while the cars on. check to see if the connections are good and not damaged. as soon as you start putting the tank together i would put a bottle of the gas system cleaner to make sure lines are plugged. umm let me think. make sure you have a new fuel pump screen. and i think thats about it.

 

Well I can't find it, on my car there are 3 relay switches right there....mine was a v8 swamped to a v6

 

ok so this is how it is right: on the driver side firewall there are 3 relays. 2 of whitch are covered together no?

Yes that's how mine is, and now I checked and no voltage on the pump and I even ran straight power to wires under the car and nothing...

 

So all the relays have power there is power coming from the wires that go into the tank, and pump isn't turning on so I'm guessing the obvious I have a bad pump? Unless there is something crazy that I'm missing

 

ok well the relay for fuel pump is the one on the very left facing the relays. ok and have you tried hotwiring the fuel pump by connecting 12V to the connection inlet under the steering wheel??

 

Which wire is it under the steering wheel? And now I know that is power coming from the wires that go into the tank, but still ill try it, what wire is it?

Ok so I went ahead and pulled the pump out, If I put power to the pump, the gray and black wire, it should turn on if the pump was good right? Cause it didn't

 

well now that you have it pulled out i would just get a new one considdering you went through that work to get to it, now what i would do it make sure everyhig there is ok. as for the fuel pump, i ordered mine on amazon.com and it was 40$, saved more then half of what it would cost at autozone. and it came with the circle sealant. and what not.

Well now the question is, what motor I have in my car cause it was a v8 but was swaped with a v6 idk what liter or year of the motor

ok this is the engine i have in my camaro. it is the 3.1L MultiPort Fuel Injection V6

 

does your engine have a circle on the air intake it could be a 2.8l

 

I dont mean to resurrect an old post from the dead, but...

I know that a problem that I've had on mine is the plug where the wiring harness for the fuel pump plugs into the vehicle, you know the spot behind the rear seats?, sometime either gets dirt and road grime trapped into it or just rattles loose over time.

jack the car up by the body so that the rear axle drops and gives you enough room to reach your arm up there and unplug it and spray some electric cleaner on it and on the other connector and reattach them making sure that they are tight. I've also even added some regular household calking to make sure that it never comes apart by itself again and insures that it stays clean. you can use that spray on electrical tape also.

 

Were you able to restore power to the pump? I got a similiar issue.. NO POWER TO THE PUMP... IN RUN Position... Got power on key up for 2 seconds..
