Oil pan repair

I kinked up my oil pan after hitting a lip of dried asphalt. The kink caught the neck of the drain plug which widen the hole. I already retapped the hole and fitted it the a plug but I'm still left with a thin crack where the kink is. Is it safe to jb weld the crack until I have the money for a pan/filter/gasket?

Re: Oil pan repair

JB Weld is great stuff, i dont see why not. Just be sure to keep an eye out for any leaks and check your oil level constantly for a while.

Why not just go to a junkyard a get an oil pan? Granted, it wont be as pretty as a new one, but unless your engine is all rebuilt and you care about everything on it being spotless and new, a junkyard pan thats in good shape wouldnt be a bad idea, IMO. And the oil pans on the bottom, and its not quite easy to see (or get at for that matter), so whats the chances of anyone seeing it anyway? lol

Re: Oil pan repair

check the local junk yards or CL for a pan. you can pick one up for a few bucks. another $15 on a gasket and another maybe $20 on a filter and oil. i wouldnt advise using jb weld ANYWHERE on an engine. fix it right the first time.
