Engine Mods for 305 TPI
Engine Mods for 305 TPI
My car is a 305 TPI with a 5-speed. I know all of you are going to say engine swap, but my question is what mods can I do for more power that I can carry over to my next motor. I plan on dropping in a stock 350 motor out of a 70 chevelle in it in a year or so. Any advice would be appreciated, thanks!

Swap to a 350!
In all seriousness though, many of the parts that will help you get more power out of your 305 can be used on a 350 later on if you're going that route. Start out w/exhaust mods (headers, y-pipe, and a good cat-back will help alot). You could also upgrade the baseplate and runners for the TPI, or go w/an aftermarket intake like a Holley Stealth Ram, depending on your preference. Better heads and cams will also work w/the 350 too.
I think I'd start out w/the exhaust mods, and throw in a bigger cam if you're going for the most cost-effective gains for now. If you have the money though, mod the TPI or use another intake if you're after better top end.

dude if its in nice shape you actually have a pretty rare car. Mine if 1 of 809 5-speed 305 TPI GTAs.. and the power is very close (in my year) between a 350 and 305. with the 5-speed they gave a better cam, better gears and more goodies...
