has anyone ever botthered too....
has anyone on here ever bothered to take the time, money and energy to build a 305 engine? i mean, bore it, put a cam in, put a bigger crank in it...tear it down to bare block and rebuild it for performance? im pretty confident it can be done (if ford can build 302's and tiny 4.6L V8's). can someone please share some knowledge? i have a 305 engine i am ready to start my project...NO MATTER HOW HARD IT WILL BE.
P.S. i just started using this site today, so im very new to this.

Re: has anyone ever botthered too....
sure, there have been a lot of people who have done that.
IIRC, you can take the 305 up to around 334.
but, when your talking about doing that much work, you can build a 383 for around the same price. in fact stroking out the 305 may even cost more because of the availability of stroker parts for it.
there isn't much difference in the amount of work involved in stroking either one.
so most people end up choosing the 383, or going bigger with a 406.
got lots of money to spend? then maybe a 454 small block, or even a 638 SBC.

welcome to the forum
first, your vehicle is no newer than 20 years old.
your question has been asked/debated/answered hundreds of times on this site. The search function will be your friend
you can either heed the advice of those who have tried, spent $$$ and now understand cost/benefit, or check your reality at the door and want to wish it to be a good idea and close your ears to reality
ultimately, the choice is yours

yes they are, unless their not.
454 Small Block,
http://www.hotrod.com/techarticles/e...e/viewall.html
you can buy the 454 SBC here,
http://www.speedwaymotors.com/Garage...gine,8736.html
the 638 was a short lived SBC from world products.
it had a mix of SBC, LSx, and custom parts.
it was not cheap, IIRC, around 60K.
