Headers advice, need smart people!
Hey guys, I was originally planning on getting some Hooker long tube headers for my 91 RS LO3, but than some one told me that some shorty headers would raise my torque power band past the TBI's RPM torque band. . So what do you guys recommend for me? Its an automatic.
P.S. What do you guys think of these?http://www.hawksthirdgenparts.com/pa...jexceptho.aspx

Re: TPI Headers for RPM's
Long tubes will make more torque before peak horsepower than shorties. Shorties are technically tuned for higher power bands than long tubes due to the much shorter primary length. Most of our v8's dont spin high enough to really take full advantage. Shorties are usually chosen for practicality reasons, not for tuned primary length reasons. There are other reasons shorties dont work quite as well despite that. Long tubes usually still make more horsepower regardless of the RPM range due to other reasons, but peak horsepower between a set of shorties vs long tubes of the same primary diameter are usually VERY close. Very, very small difference. Less than 2-3 percent.
There's a LOT of variables in exhaust though, primary length, diamter, collectors, scavenging, pipe diameters and length throughout the system etc...
Anyway at teh end of the day you just need to get the best headers you can reasonably afford. Hooker 2055's are pretty much considered the best off the shelf header/y-pipe set.
Also, your engine is RPM limited due to the tuned intake runner length. Nothing you do to the exhaust can change that the intake is limited to around 4500 RPMs.
