charging system issues

I have an 86' camaro. I put in an 88' 5.0 tpi and built it up. Originally I had a problem with my brand new optima. It kept dying within a few days. I replaced the battery and took her out for a spin. The voltage was normal between 14-15. The next day out of nowhere my battery yet again was dead. I jumped the car and the voltage was at 11 and slowly dropping. I charged the batt and replaced the alt. Sadly that didn't change a thing. I checked the voltage to the alt and it was only about a volt low. If anyone could please help!? i need my baby back on the rd asap

Re: charging system issues

Cabling going down to your starter may be bad or loose.
I would check that closely at the starter.

Since you did the motor swap, the ground cable fromthe motor to the firewall behind the passenger side head could have come loose. Will cause havoc with your electronics.

Re: charging system issues

Just went through this with a friend, his battery cable terminals where all corroded where they attach to the battery.

Best to check any and all wiring from the alternator to the battery to the ground (chassis).

Re: charging system issues

thanks everyone for the help. i went over all of my wires and figured out that my header melted the power wire to my altenator. Thankfully it was a simple fix. Now she's charging beautifully! And running great!! Can't wait for my 500 mi break in on the motor now.

That 500mile break -in is subjective. On an older flat tappet motor I can see it, maybe. On the newer roller cams the break in isn't as hard on the valve train. It's to help seat the rings etc. But if you baby it while breaking it in, it will break in "easy". I'vs read some theories that you want to break it in like you'll drive it. So in that case. Drive it like you stole it!

Ah see I heard the same thing between the flat tappet motor and the roller motor. I deff have been all day driving it like I stole it jaws dropped when i raced a few cars that thought they had power
