83 camaro high idle issue
83 camaro high idle issue
new memeber to third gen, so bear w me if i am posting this thread in the wrong location, or is my question sounds foolish. I recently bought this 83 camaro z28, and the previous owner had overhauled the engine to some extent. he installed a cam (i am unsure of specfics) and also installed an edelbrock performer intake, a spectra carb spacer, and a holly 670 street avenger. My first action was to swap the 700r4 tranny for a t5 standard. now that this is complete, i am trying to get the engine to preform correctly. I have followed holleys carb tuning instructions to a T, and yet the engine will not idle down to where it should be...my tach doesnt work of course, but im guessing it idles around 1100, hot or cold. I have turned the idle adjustent out all the way, and searched all vacume lines for leaks, also replaced the gaskets above and below the carb spacer. Also, i am noticing alot of white smoke from the exhaust indicating either a leak condition, or a possible coolant leak?? should i assume that the intake gasket was not properly installed? While searching the forum for an answer, i came across something about the intake bolts requiring sealant on the threads?? is this true? any help or suggestions would be appreciated. i have not tried spraying intake cleaner to locate a leak, because after a recent fire under my hood due to a leaky fuel line, im a little skiddish of a repeat occurance...Please help...thanx! -Site newbie, Jeremy Dus
Re: 83 camaro high idle issue
its the standard holley electric choke. opening all the way when hot. although no matter how i adjust it, it will only close so far. i assume this is normal. the carb is practicaly brand new
