Fuel line

I have a 86 trans am 305 tpi, was working on changing the fuel filter when the line going from the filter back to the tank split open. What exactly do I need now to replace the fuel line and does anyone know about the difficulty/cost to do it myself. I am limited on tools but I would hate to bring it to a mechanic shop and get charges crazy $ to have it done for me. Thanks

Re: Fuel line

not sure were your split happened at the o-ring flare fitting at the filter or the line. You can repair it with a 3/8 union fitting or a dorman 800-157.

Re: Fuel line

No where the fuel line bends and goes into the filter (like 3 - 5 in behind the fuel filter) right by the fuel filter bracket.

Ok im sorry I am a learn as I go mechanic (don't know how else to word it) and I have never really messed with fuel lines before. Can you tell me more about the 3/8 union and how it works and/or possibly a link explaining what it is and how to use it. Thanks
