Re: engine pinging

Assume this is pre-ignition. Not detonation at WOT?

EGR. EGR provides exhaust gas into the combustion chamber in order to cool combustion temps and reduce pinging at low throttle tip in. This allows the ECM to command more timing advance with a leaner mixture at low throttle cruise for better mileage.

Pinging is also more prevalent at higher engine temps and can be exacerbated by bad, or the wrong kind of, plugs.

Re: engine pinging

Pinging won't cause 'bad' shaking. Sounds like a mis-fire. Check all of you ignition components, check your injectors, check for trouble codes.

It could still be a sticking EGR valve, but another cause is more likely. You can check your EGR by disconnecting it to see if this affects it.

Re: engine pinging

I'd repost this as a mis-fire/shakin real bad issue in the TPI tech board.
