heads on goodwrench 350
you guys are prob going to get tired of reading my questions on this engine swap, however i have another question. Ive been reading a lot on this forum about how horrible the 882 heads are that came factory on these crate 350's. My question is i still have the factory heads of my L69 305. What benefits would there be to put them on the 350 versus the 882. Im going to stop tonight and grab numbers of the block and heads to ensure this is all stock, but just wanted to know if i should switch heads

The 305 heads, in stock trim, suck just as bad as 882s, but for different reasons.
However, if you install 1.94" intake valves in them, port them PROPERLY (open up the throat to 85% or so of the valve area and smooth the weird rough angles), lay back the chamber wall to unshroud them, and use undercut valves, they're a great idea for the low-compression smogger motors in general.
Here's a pic showing why opening up the throat is where the power gains are, and "gasket matching" (what most people seem to think of when the topic of "porting" comes up) is a COMPLETE TOTAL UTTER waste of perfectly good abrasive.

Here's what the chamber "wall" needs, and it's not hard to figure out why... like, doesn't matter how big the valve is or how far you open it, if the outer edge of it is up against an obstruction.

This is actually a 081 casting but the 416 you have will need the same deal.
