Short Spark Plugs

I've been searching this for a while and, while there are a lot of threads on the matter, I still have no answer. I have hooker long tubes and I need shorty spark plugs. I've been using Accel 8199 plugs but they fail really often and I am ready to try some other plugs.
Anyone know about a spark plug that would be equivalent to the accels in terms of length and heat range?

Thanks

Re: Short Spark Plugs

NGK has plugs that are equivalent - UR4, UR5 or UR6. The 4 is hot and the 6 is cold.

I ditched my Accel shorty plugs long time ago.........they're terrible. You won't regret it.

Thanks a lot. Found some NGK UR4GP and after custom making a tool I finally installed #6 and #8 plugs. Those Accels kept fouling and at $30 a set I just gave up on them. Thanks again.

Not a problem.....and a custom spark plug tool is the way to go, I made one also.

I'm not a fan of Accel spark plugs at all, but my first concern would be to find out why they were failing and/or fouling.
Have you done any datalogging to verify that your ECM is going closed loop?
What sort of BLMs are you seeing at idle?
Did you switch to a heated O2 sensor when you installed your long-tubes?

Re: Short Spark Plugs

ar133's are pretty short, almost as short as the accels, but non resistor plugs means rfi and if you have some electronics or even your radio, will have static. I have run accels for quite some time, never had a problem with them

Re: Short Spark Plugs

If you're using shorty plugs because they're simply difficult to get to, try that cheap harbor freight socket set with the thru-socket ratcheting wrench. I've gotten myself one and its been mostly useless for everything else I've tried it for, but it makes changing spark plugs such a breeze I would have paid twice as much to get it.

Then you can use regular plugs.

But there may be another reason your plugs are failing that isnt the brand. Just saying I had an awful time with my plugs and wanted shorty plugs, but I found this goofy socket from harbor freight that made it a breeze.

Granted, Ive got Hedmans, so I dont know if the Hookers physically try to occupy the same space as the spark plug... in which case a goofy socket wrench wont help much.

That said, I can have all plugs replaced in a matter of 5 minutes with that thing, so I'd hope my post is not a total waste of time if I can help my fellow thirdgenners with a fairly tedious aspect of the hobby.
