Re: Exhaust pops

firing order needs to be checked. Also be sure that you have proper connections at the plugs and the distributor. The boots on plug wires can be a pain. (New or old)

Re: Exhaust pops

Careful with what people still call plug "wires", If I had to make a comparison, it's like calling compressed particle board "wood", mess with enough and it falls apart. Today's "wires" are made of compressed carbon particles and will break down the more you pull, twist, and bend them. I call them "carbon plug cables" and I change them when I change plugs.

Re: Exhaust pops

When I crossed number 5 and 3 my car would drop down to around 300 rpm when I let off at low speeds like it was going to die and would stumble when i first gave it fuel. That was also with open headers and no 02 sensor hooked up to.

Re: Exhaust pops

I actually did my firing order wrong! It still stalls out though and it's t the shop. He said possibly the timing and need tune up. Makes sense idle was rough before it started stalling out. It's 22 years old . What does be mean by the timing? Idid the plugs the wires. A fuel filter the oil and filter and the air filter. I felt like a real man under the hood.

Re: Exhaust pops

If it idles rough, misses consistently while driving and we're talking about a TPI motor. I would just about bet anything you have an injector problem.
