valve seal change, now high oil pressure

yep, finally got it to quit puffing blue smoke, but now it has high then usual oil press. step on the gas and it needle goes up. 50mph and the needle shows it at 60 lbs of pressure afraid to go any faster for fear of blowing it up. fyi b4 i did seals it ran 30-50lbs only.

Something wrong
Valve seals only stop the oil leaking being sucked into the cylinders ;that oil is not under pressure ,
just floating around under the rocker cover so no relationship to engine oil pressure.

Have you checked your OP gauge against a known working one?
Gauge or sender may be faulty

Re: valve seal change, now high oil pressure

Your oil pump has an internal bypass valve to control pressure. It keeps the pressure from continuing to climb unless it has been blocked by debris or has somehow jammed or seized.

If it was me I would go ahead and rev it up to see how high the pressure goes. You really don't have much to worry about because it's very unlikely for an oil filter to burst at anything under 100 PSI. You will see on your gauge before accidentally going over that.
If it stops going up around 60 PSI then you're fine.

Re: valve seal change, now high oil pressure

I wouldn't bother with a mech gauge.

Here's the troubleshooting steps involving one of those:

1. Observe stock gaug: reads funny.
2. Go to store & buy mech gauge. $$$
3. Install mech gauge. $$$$ + hrs, various fittings, mess with everything, etc.
4. Discover stock gauge is indeed wrong. Well duh.
5. Begin troubleshooting.
6. ???? Dink around a little, determine the only way to troubleshoot it is, by replacement.
7. Do the obvious: go to parts store and buy oil pressure sending unit. ¢¢¢
8. Remove all the mech gauge crap.
9. Replace OPSU. (no hrs, just a couple of min)
10. Gauge now reads right.

OK, now that you've had some time to think about all that, explain how steps 2 - 6 and step 8, add ANY value WHATSEOVER to the process.

Skip all that. Move directly from step 1 (which is where you are now) directly to step 7; then to step 9 & 10.
