91 speed sensor

ok my car set for 3 years and i just recently got it running and now the speedo dont work right , when i get up around 50mph it will read about 5 mph, do you all think its the sensor gone bad from sitting that long , can i just pull it out and try to clean it?

Re: 91 speed sensor

probably the gauge, but you can try to clean the sender, but its electric, so its a sealed unit, you can really take it apart.

my bet is on the cluster, not the sender.

edit

are you saying at 50 it drops to 5 or its only reading 5 at 50 mph?
