igniton tumber/VATS help

well my tumbeler craped out, and i of course i tackeled the jobs before reading the many VATS threads. lol stupid me. i finlay got the steering wheel torn down enough to take the tumbeler out. i was just gonna use the old pliers start method untill i got enough cash to get a tumbler and key system. i have the old tumbeler hangin by the VATS cords. i fugred with the key in it would disable vats and i could just turn the motor overt with a pair pf plyers. this is all beause the igniton wont turn anyone. so my question is. do i need to have the key in on the RUN position to even turn the igniton manualy with the plyers? do i have be on RUN to disable the vats? cuz when i turn it now with the plyers all the lights come on and all that but it wont actualy turn over.?
-Lost and confused

Re: igniton tumber/VATS help

you need to disable vats to turn the engine without the key in, same think like my car. i have a extra key but has no vats chip, when i turn the key to turn on all it will do is allow radio play and stuff, but wont allow the car to crank at all. if you disable vats, it will be in your favor but this is a bigger risk as stated in other forums that thiefes will have a higher chance of stealing your car. its a wighted out situation.

Re: igniton tumber/VATS help

i live in a VERY small town, theft is not a BIG worry of mine, but yoi never know so ur right about that, im a very...hillbilly..kinda guy. so i got itt to turn over, so ill put the steering wheel back together with the tumbeler dangeling by the wires untill i can afford a new tumbeler in a few weeks. after i unhooked and rehooked the battery with the key in the igniton so taht the resistro worked i could turn it over with the plyers...dont judge me. lmao
