stock 882 heads vs GM bowtie heads

quick question. i have a 350 bored 40 and decked 10. it has flat top pistons with a crane cam 478 lift with a 2000 stall. a demon 750 double pumper with a 1" spacer on a edelbrock performer dual plane intake, hooker comp headers and 2.5 inch exhaust.

i have a set of stock 882 heads with z28 springs.

i recently purchased a set of gm bow tie heads with 202 valves. i bought them for 400 bucks ready to go with guide plates and screw in studs.

i got them from the guy who purchased them new in 1998 and had them ported and polished and rebuilt last summer. they have 4 runs through the 1/8 since the rebuild

will these heads out perform my 882 or should i sale for a small profit and keep what i have? currently my car has no problem turning 6000 rpms and it feels quick. however, i have lost 4 races and i'm not feeling much love for my IROCZ

any opinions or advice is appriciated

"...lost 4 races"? As in, street races?

Re: stock 882 heads vs GM bowtie heads

anyone that looks at that post really needs a great deal more info to make even a wild guess at the correct answer
whats your car weight with you in it?
whats your current ET and trap speed?
whats your current compression ratio?
whats your rear gear ratio?
what tires do you use?
what rpm do you launch at?
chances are good that the new heads will be a minor improvement but theres a great deal of missing info
look Ive been racing cars and building engines for 40 plus years and thats a great deal more to making a car faster that swapping heads alone, and theres FAR better heads available, so before you go swapping parts look over your goals and decide if those heads even if they add a few hp are worth the effort , or if you need to think thru the combo
yes Im well aware most of us are on very limited budget, that makes thinking thru the parts selection that much more important

Re: stock 882 heads vs GM bowtie heads

thanks for the info grumpyvette. i'm running a 342 gear ratio. 16" goodyear tire. my car is peg leg so i have to get it rolling before i can give it full throttle. it has wheel spin until you reach 15mph.
i seem to loose my gettie up and go, in third gear. i'm tearing it down this weekend and installing the new heads. im going to roll the dice and hope for the best!

I just visited grumpyvette's forum. That is some good stuff. I think I'll save it to my favorites list.
