Remote Mount Coil Install Help

Putting car back to stock. 1989 Formula 350 TPI. Has a remote mount HEI coil. Car had an MSD ignition which is why I'm a little confused about the factory coil.

I have a new Delphi coil. But it came with these thin straps and a bunch of screws and although I feel like a total idiot for asking, I can't for the life of me see what these straps are for and the proper way to mount this thing.

I can see that it will bolt to the double-bracket at the bottom. Is that it?

Anyone have any pix of theirs installed or instructions for how to install or replace one???

Would be very helpful.

Thank you in advance for shedding any light on this.

Normally, searching has been good to me but not on this one.

Bump. Can anyone explain how these OEM-replacement Coils mount and what these metal straps are for?

Re: Remote Mount Coil Install Help

The straps are not used on your application. The screws will serve to attach the coil in between the two sides of the bracket. The bracket then mounts on the two rearmost intake manifold bolts on the passenger side of engine. There should be bolts with studs above the heads in these two locations. The bracket slips in place over the studs and is fastened with nuts.

I have MSD Digital 6 ignition with MSD Blaster coil on my IROC Beasty. The MSD coil mounts exactly like the factory coil did. I don't know what was done to your car.

That's perfect. The original owner (I am #2) ran an MSD ignition that mounted on the top of the wheel well and used a long coil wire back to the distributor cap.

For purposes of originality, I am putting an OE coil back on. Yes, the bracket that runs from the manifold upward IS there. That bracket also holds down some kind of plug and two air-looking small hard hoses.

What I am missing still is the upper piece of the bracket that would normally be riveted to the bottom of the coil. I'm looking for one of those but since they were originally riveted to the coils, they may be hard to find by themselves.

Thank you for explaining the straps. I didn't see how they would work.

Thanks again...

The little air thing with two hard plastic lines is the EGR solenoid.
