I have, and I know several people who have. It used to be quite common on dirt motors (not the TPI) before such a large selection of cheap aluminum heads came to be.
Why do you ask?
11:1 is very efficient with iron heads, though you can run into a problem with heat build-up if you're doing this with an emissions engine.
Keep the engine on the cool side ( around 180* ), keep the exhaust out of the intake manifold (exhaust crossover for EGR), and take some time to get the spark curve set up just right. For a performance engine you want to run a colder spark plug. I would recommend one of the Autolite plugs of racing design that sheds heat quicker.
There's a link to spark plug info in my sig.
There are people who have tried to run high compression with iron heads on the street and end up overheating because they run too much octane and a tune that doesn't match. When tuned correctly and the intake charge kept cool, then you can run on 87 octane with no problems.
If you run emissions equipment and are sticking to a stock chip/tune, then may have to run 92 octane and still have some issue with detonation when the engine gets hot.

I ask bc I have a 355 but 305 heads. I havent been able to source a set of 64cc heads to keep my compression lower. the 305 heads have the 1.94/1.50 valve and some port work. as far as egr goes i was going to delete the whole system and run a 210/214 duration cam with a stock chip, long tube true dual exhaust

I highly suggest relying on a good tune instead of luck to keep you out of detonation.
Find a really good tuner and you could be driving and racing on 87 octane.
It will be worth the trouble.
The 305 heads with 87 octane should produce very good fuel mileage once tuned correctly.
