What is the proper idle for a 305 tpi. Mine idles at 1200. Shouldn't it be a good bit lower?

Thats normal for startup, but then it should settle down to 500-750 rpm

Be aware also, that the "tach" in the dash is NOTORIOUSLY inaccurate; and that those fail by reading high. WAY high sometimes. I have several of them laying around, and ALL of them read high except the one in the car; one of them reads over TWICE the reality.

So before getting all wound up about "idle speed", check the "tach".
