IDK what this is
So in my engine i got a 305 carbed and this sensor or what ever it is kept dangling and keept hitting the belts so just yesterday I disconnected it so it wouldn't hit the belts. Was that a smart choice?What dos it even do?thanks!

Purge valve for the evap canister. Shorten the hoses to it so it's not hanging out so far.

Yup, purge control valve...
Being in CA, you'll need to keep it in good working condition. Looks like one of the hose nipples is already broke off of it. Time for a new one, with the hoses of appropriate length as well.
