Oil pump pickup placement

I bought a 5 quart oil pan for my new motor and installed the Mellings Select 10553 standard volume, high pressure pump. I am using the Mellings 55-S1 oil pickup. The edge of the pickup closest to the front of the motor touches the oil pan on the angled surface of the dip in the oil pan for the drain plug. Since the oil pickup is at a slight angle (10-15 degrees) towards the pan, the middle surface of the pickup that covers about half the screen is anywhere from 1/8" to 1/2" from the pan. Should i angle the pickup so that it doesnt touch the pan on the edge of the pickup or maybe hit the pan in that location with a BFH to try to add more clearance. I'm afraid that if I change the angle of the pickup, the central part of the pickup will be further away from the pan.
