Too lean?
Hey guys,
I have an 88 350TPI. I started working on the air intake because its very restrictive on the engine, but im wondering if i may have gone "too far".
I took the plastic part that the air filters sit in and cut out the "boxes" that were under the filtters, opening it up big time. Noticed a big difference there! I took the "Y" intake part out and cut rectangular windows into the back of it to help it breath a bit better, noticed a difference here too. I cut the rear screen out of the MAF, but decided to leave the front one just to air n the safe side;the car is my DD and i figured it wasnt worth the minimal gain to cut that front one out too. It definetly pulled alot stronger, and the throttle respone was crisp and more powerful than ever!
I ordered a throttle body air foil and intalled it, and now it feels pretty much like it did stock, if not worse. It feels completely drained, the torque just dropped like a rock. I was really expecting it to make a huge impact on the amount of torque, but in a POSITIVE way of course. I used to burn rubber so easily, i could be going thru a corner 15-20mph and give it some gas and still break the tires free; i tried the same thing at the same turn and it didnt even break free.
Could I have made it run too lean? I thought the computer adjusts the air/fuel ratio so that it couldnt run lean though? I appreciate any imput on this.
I put the uncut Y intake back on and it seemed better, but still not as powerful as before.
Do I need to reset the computer (unplug battery/pull fuse) so it resets itself?
Im just a bit lost and frustrated here, i was really expecting a noticable of power gained here but instead i feel like i lost a considerable amount.
Thanks again guys!

No one has any input?
I took the thing back off and im lighting up the tires as easily as before, so im keeping it off for now, but doesnt anyone have any input as to why it might have negativly affected my performance?
