88 305 tbi not running help?
So,
Here is the deal. I have an 88 camaro 305 tbi. I've owned it for about a year and a half. It ran fine for about a year. over the past winter it started having an issue when I'd start the car and let it run for 10-15 mins or so it would shut off and would not restart. It would crank and crank but it would not fire. After the car would sit overnight it would fire right up on the first try. So, being i had a reman. set of injectors for it i installed them and it didn't fix the problem. So, the last time i was driving the car it ran about 15 mins and it started to shake and shutter then it stalled. now the car will not start at all. We are getting spartk and fuel but the car will not fire. I had a friend who was a mechanic look at it and he said the timing seems to be off. he pulled the distributor cap off to reveal a rusted up distributor. He told me I need a new distributor. Has anyone had a problem like this? I wonder if it is the distributor because he is also the one who told me it was the injectors. Any help would be great thanks.

When you say rusty distributor, do you mean the distributor cap, the rotor, the actual distributor housing, coil? Which part exactly? Sounds like you were getting moisture under the cap, this can cause many many problems.
As for how to fix it- depends. If the distributor housing itself is rusted (if its lightly rusted and can be saved, just sand it off) you may have to go to a junkyard to get a "new" one. You can go and buy a brand new performance one ready to go, but i would just buy the dist from a junkyard and rebuild it with the parts you want. It takes me abt 10min to completely rebuild a distributor, its very easy.
If the housing itself is rusted severly, check the connectors, grounds, and the intake around the distributor, where it mounts, for rust and take care of it, if any.

Thanks for responding. The cap and rotor are in good shape, Everything else under there has a fair amount of rust on it.

Could be the ignition control module, its the black box under the distributor cap with two plugs going into it. If it gets too hot it can stop working.
