88 trans am GTA. 8 yr project finally got it running Had kids moth balled it finally back at it. 383 stock tpi. I tried setting the base timing. I read a bunch of stuff trying remember which wire to unplug. it ran fine with the gestimate I made to start it, but figured i would set it correctly. I unplugged a four wire in the bottom of the distributor and couldn't get the car to stay running as the timing came close to the mark. It was at twelve, which after some research i may have the wrong balancer on it. but anyway that may be a whole other discussion. then i tried to unplug the single wire. My book is very confusing on which to do. Now it won't run worth a crap. It surges up to about 1500 2000 on first start then surges down to about 800 then back up then it dies. Did I mess up the computer? I left the ground off the battery for a while and it still is doing it. It ran fine before i started messing with the timing. I reset the timing back to my first gestimate. I do have one vaccum line broke coming off the back of the intake I need to fix but it ran fine before I messed with it even with the leak. Any help would be great.
