Newbie with an '83 305... Berlinetta? :D
Hey everyone! I'm glad I found this place! Excited camaro newbie here... I'm in the process of buying a 1983 third gen with a 305. I don't know much about the car as I'm picking it up tomorrow, but from what I have read (I've been lurking for a bit) it seems to me that it's a berlinetta model, but that's just going on the bar in the tail lights and the gold striping on he bottom of the body. I'll be sure to post lots of pictures when I pick up the car! I can't wait to learn more, and tear into the car
untill then, I'll be doing lots of reading! -kenny

Thanks for the welcome Rob, here's a few photos if anyone is interested...

The paint isnt's in too good condition, but there are only about one or two spots of rust, and it's just surface rust.
Here's the engine

Not too bad looking if I do say so myself
Here is the back of the car:

(You can see the black/gold bar seperating the tail lights that leads me to beleive it may be a berlinetta, I still have to check out the VIN)
Aaannddd one from the front.. sort of haha

Sorry for the crappy low quality pictures, my ipod was all I had at the time. The guy I'm buying it from said that the engine was rebuilt about 5000 miles ago, and the transmission only has 12000 miles on it, but it's going to be inspected before any of these claims are found to be true or not. I started it at his house, and it sounded amazing, and idled great. It is carbed, but I didn't take a look to see what carbs they were. I', hoping they arent quadrajets haha. supposedly it just needs a battery, and the brake system needs to be flushed and bled to be "drivable" but I'm sure there are many things lurking that need to be taken care of as well. I only bought the car for 1250, so it's nowhere near perfect, but I just love everything about it. I have never worked on a car, but I have a few years of experience working on motorcycles (replacing clutches, rebuilding, ect.) My dad was a mechanic for ford 12 years though, so we'll be rebuilding it together. I'm 17, and I only ride a motorcycle, which is no fun in the rain, or the winter haha, so I'm glad I bought this peice of history. Tomorrow I'm having it flat-bedded to my house, there will be more up updates! Hope this wall of text wasn't too huge... lol thanks guys!

Ok, the car was flatbeded to my house Tuesday night, and this thing was DIRTY!! There was dirt and stuff, and things I don't want to imagine, inside the car, so I took a vaccine to everything. Pulled and washed the seat covers, vaccumed the carpets and seats (the brush attachment works really well IMO) pulled the rubber floor mats and washed them. Windexed the windows. It is super clean now and ever smells better, haha it's not gross to sit in anymore. After a Chevy stering wheel cover was put on (the steering wheel plastic was breaking down and was sticky) I didn't want to get out. I need a radio deck, and the tach doesn't work, it's stuck at 7xxx. All the struts are worn out, and man that hatch is HHEEAAVVYY!!! So, untill I get replacements, I carry designated hood sticks haha! After that, I washed the outside, and years sitting in the woods have not been nice to this poor car, to put it into perspective, I thought the car was grey. After one wipe, thee was a: "huh, this car is WHITE!" haha.ill try to post some mOre, in depth pictures after work today.

Welcome to the forum. What are your plans for the car? I truly enjoy seeing a neglected 3rd Gen brought back from critical condition and turned into someone's pride and joy. Keep us informed. - Rich

Me too, I enjoy working on things also. Im not exactly sure, but I kind of want to restore the interior and exterior, but put new parts/upgrades in the internals. I'm 17, so this car and my motorcycle (82 Yamaha, my daily driver) will be my transportation, especially since ridinbin the resin and cOld is no fun haha. I'm just dying for the day when I drive it to my high school and someone asks me to pop the hood! ;D
I'm about to go to work, so I'll try to get those pictures up tonight.

Welcome! Nice car too. I have a 84 Berlinetta, looks almost identical. i was kinda fortunate that my car is almost 100% factory. I just rolled over 140,000 miles on her, as far as i can tell, it has not been rebuilt. It was taken car of by the previous owner well. I have owned it for 3 yrs and only had to put brakes, tranny mount, and a battery in it. I do need shocks now.... Take care of it and post about your upgrades!

Welcome to the Berli world. Get a clay bar, a buffer and some good wax. Try to save the old enamel. I just finished working on my 84's paint. Unfortunately the motor and trans still needs to be put back together.

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone, it's good to be on a computer for once instead of typing on my ipod. I'd post a lot more if I could get on the computer more often, but the thing is from the jurassic age haha.
I LOVE this car. it's my first car, and it's my pride and joy already
I had an infestation of ants but I couldn't find where they were coming from... untill today. Today i put in a brand new set of fire bird seats, front and rear, and when i pulled out the rear bucket seat thousands of them swarmed everywhere!!! I sprayed the nest with terro and killed them, vaccumed, and replaced the seats (I made sure the car was spotless first.) after that, I set off a bug bomb (battery removed) and I'm just waiting for it to clear up. That should take care of the problem for good.
I looked up the VIN and this is for sure, an 83 berlinetta model. I love the car, but I also want to get an IROC or simmilar body kit for it. I'm planning to keep it mostly stock inside and out, but upgrade the internals. I'm still paying the car off from the guy i bought it from, so I don't have any money for parts, but it shouldnt be long before I get it payed.
I can't wait to drive it. here are some pictures I took when it arrived at my house, and got a good cleaning:
here are the new backseats:

The new front seats:

The dash: (My tach isn't working D

A shot of the white beauty in my front yard
:

This skull was in my dad's first car, an '82 second gen camaro, and now, it sits in my third gen.:

Well, that's the car, and a little bit down the road, I'm going to need you guys' help with a lot of tech stuff, but we'll cross that bridge when we get to it.
untill then, I've got some payments to make

looking good. I like the skull thing, that's pretty cool your dad had it in his first car and now you do. Have fun driving it to school the first time because I sure did my senior year. Had my friends hanging out the ttops the last day throwing water balloons at the underclassmen which is a school tradition...but nobody could top how we did it
