What cam to choose

Whats up everyone, I just recently bought a 350 from a 87 iroc. It's going in my 84z.I'm going to rebuild it and switch it over to a carb set up.I haven't decided if i'm going to do a 355 or a 383 yet.I'm looking for some advice cam wise.I'm thinking about running the cc305 on stock ported heads. What do you guys think? It's going to be an A4, and I wanna run right around 350hp/tq at the wheels.I'd like it to be a little bit faster then my 94z 6spd.Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Not tryin to be rude to anyone (this time) but your best bet would be to call up comp cams or crane, some company that makes em and they will give you your best matchup for what you have and want.

In which case you are far away from cam choice decisions

Re: What cam to choose

Why choose a compromised cam if you're going carb? What gear? What converter?

gearing is going to be 3.73 and for converter i'm thinking right around 2500-3000 stall.I think i've figured out what i'm doing for a cam.I'm going to talk to lloyd elliot and most likely have him make me a custom grind

Get your gameplan with your motor figured out first. Lloyd will take care of you. Great guy all around, actually.

You can get that easily provided you've got a well setup car. Go with a 383 if you're starting from scratch.. it will make things easier. I've got a 355 personally, but that also freed up some money towards everything else (which is where my money went). I saved money because I bought the shortblock off a friend. In your case I think you should just stroke the motor out and give it a nice custom camshaft. Don't use a shelf cam... that's silly. Get someone to talk things over with you and grind a camshaft out for YOUR goals and build. I suggest Steve at Lunati or Shane can help you at Bullet. They've both been the most helpful. Comps stuff is OK (I had a xe274) but that's old technology now. Lloyd Elliot also has some great grinds for his applications, and he'll sit and talk with you about anything.
