Extracting a TPI motor and trans?

Looking to yank the 350 and trans out of my IROC, but was stumped by the most simple of questions...

What the hell do people use to attach their crane/lift/pulley to to actually lift the assembly out? Do most people remove the plenum and runners? Or are there better places to attach mounts that I can't see?

You can unbolt the k-member and drop it all from underneath. You can also pull it from the top. Take the plenum. runners, and lower intake off. Get a few large grade 8 washers, and put them on two intake bolts you removed. Put the bolts through a chain link for the hoist, and screw them down into the heads at opposite sides of the engine. Then pull the engine.

You could also go to the junk yard and get some engine lift points from an old small block they have laying around. Bolt those to the heads using the lower intake bolts, and place your cherry picker chains on them. I usually pull the distributor out before pulling an engine as well. I have pulled several small blocks out over the years using either method. I would try to find some old lift points, it seems to go a lot easier that way. I helped my buddy pull his engine and trans from his 87 camaro. We pulled the engine and trans out the top with the trans still bolted to the engine. We also didn't have a cherry picker, so we ended up using his dads old Allis Chalmers loader tractor to extract them.
