New fuel pump

I am putting a new fuel pump in my 91 Camaro. I know I have to drop the rear end but how far? How high do I need to get the car in the air? Any tricks? Do I have to remove the drive shaft? I am going to attempt to do this in a weekend. How long should it take? I am a gasturbin tech so I am not new to a wrench. Can I get this done in 10 hours? I have all the tools available. Or should I give it a whole weekend?

Re: New fuel pump

When I did mine I left the drive shaft connected and brake lines connected. I had to drop the rearend to the max point the brake lines would let me. Gotta remove exhaust also. If everything goes smoothly and you've got all the right tools you should be able to do t in 4-5hrs if your never done it before. Worse problem is getting the tank out and back in since the filler neck can be a pain.

Re: New fuel pump

Thanks dude that means I can do it at work on the nite shift. That's the answere I was looking for. Is there any special tool I'll need? Is it metric? Does it matter much that the gas tank has some gas in it or should I get it all out?

Re: New fuel pump

It can have some left just depends on how heavy you want it to be lol. Everything is metric. You will hav to unbolt lower side of shocks and the Panhard rod and brace heat shields. I did mine over a few weeks my filer neck was leaking and had to get it fixed and I was able to squeeze the car in the garage with my trans am lol.
