Need help about to give up on my Camaro

Hey Evey one. I have been having problems with my 1987 5.7 TPI Camaro. It has been about 2 years now and about 30 hours of reading different forums.

My problem is car stalls while put in drive or start to go from a stop. It also has a loss of power some times when you get on it.

What i have done so far is this
New IAC that was was dirty did not wanna clean it so got a new one.
New EGR that was broke and did not hold vacuum.
New BOSH lll Fuel injectors that every on talks about on this site.
New MAF
New TPS.
Temp sensor in plenum was also caked with about 2mm of crap that i cleaned

My car seems even worse then it was before i have no leaking injectors and all vacuum lines are where they are suppose to be.

My PSI is at 45psi and timing is set where it needs to be and TPS is also at .54.
Headers were put on this car and only thing i can guss is they crossed a vacuum line but all the diagrams i can find show the main lines. Not all the small ones such as from Evap canister or the lines by the distributor.

The reason i think it is a Vacuum leak is because the hose that connects from the Eavp Canister to the T then the back of the Plenum on the passenger side i took the hose off and plugged just got the heck of it. It has vacuum there but for some reason when i plugged the hole the car ran better then it has in 2 years. So i am now at a complete loss.
When i put every thing back together i though maybe there was air in the gas line just like you get in your brakes (sorry not very mechanically inclined but i am getting in to it more hence why i done all this work my self).
I finally did get her started by holding the gas half throttle and it stated. then stalled then keep doing ti until i flooded it like and idiot. Then killed the battery. Today she started right now then stalled did it about 4 times then took the hose off and plugged it. Like i said it ran at a smooth idle with it plugged but then i took my figure off the vacuum hose that connects to the plenum she runs way rough then stalls out. did that about 5 times until she flooded i am guessing because it smelled of gas really need some help here guys i have put a lot of money in so far but i dont mind because i learned how to do new things but now i am at even more of a loss thanks all. Any more info needed please let me know

Re: Need help about to give up on my Camaro

I also forgot to say they only thing that is not stock is the header and it has true dual exhaust put on before i got the car so ii do not know if the change is back pressure out matter but all the info helps. also the sensors for the manifold are just hanging there at least i Guss it is for that they are 2 kind of square sensors passenger side at front of engine have called dealers with part number and went to auto stores and no one knows what it is. the dealer evne said no part exist even though there is an electrical plug ins that go to the sensors i can post a picture tomorrow if that would help.

It sounds like you think when somebody installed headers they crushed a vacuum line? Thatde be very lame of them lol but i suppose anything is possible. However, if that did happen, once the car started heating up the vac line would have just melted.

Let me ask this, just because im a little unclear still: What did you plug? The evap canister, the T splitter, or the port on the plenum?

Have you done compression checks on the engine yet? Have you considered the Heads? could be leaks from the heads maybe.

does it run rich? have you checked/replacd the coolant temp sensor on the front of the intake? those are notorious for going back and making the car run rich and have driveability issues.

Re: Need help about to give up on my Camaro

Im waiting for a friend to bring a tester for compression. But the car ran fine 2 years ago then bam started to run bad.
And no i do not think that they crushed a line but put them back on wrong or there is a hidden vacuum line i can not find and they did not put on.But i spent 3 houses going over every thing and can not find one. Like i said i looked at the diagrams for vacuum but its only shows the basic stuff not every thing.
The vacuum line i plugged came from the Canister to a T then runs all the way back next to the Fuel pressure regulator then T off again one goes to the Plenum (the one i blocked off that makes it run better. The other goes to inside the fire wall im guessing it goes in to a bunch of plastic casing so its hard to tell.

And yes it dose run rich before i did all this work on it. So im gussing it still dose. Expically since it floods easiley and smells of gas when trying to get her to run for even 30 seconds. I told a guy at work today about every thing and he thinks it is my computer in the care because my check engine light is still on but it gives only code 12

Re: Need help about to give up on my Camaro

Ok So i finally got her to start today after trying a ton of times and car ran for 10 min. I was messing with the throttle and it was all Ok. Then after awhile i got in my care and touched the gas peddle the car hesitated a little like it wanted to stull then did that 3 more times each time i hit the gas just a tiny bit. Then it stulled and will not start at all wont even attempt to turn over. I now have code 15 and code 32. I jsut put a new EGR in becaus ethe old one was wad ( Even Though i did not have a code for it before) but now with the new EGR in i have a code?????? And Justin you must be right about the Temp sencor becuase that is what code 15 is. Even though this is the first time i have ever had this code. So two new codes and one of the parts is brand new and the bad part never even gave a code?? really need some help here thanks all

Post pictures of the plugs or list what color the wires are going into them, should be able to figure out what's missing with that information.

Have you tried shooting carb cleaner or some other similarly flammable spray around the intake manifold base? If that is leaking it could cause problems like you're having. If the leak is to the outside air, when you spray the leaking area the engine RPM will go up as it sucks in the spray. You'd have to have the engine at least stumbling or preferably idling to do this though..

Re: Need help about to give up on my Camaro

Ok - so you've got an engine that runs like crap, until you cap off a vac port that comes from the plenum. Said vac port is connected to the evap canister, fpr, and goes into cabin, probably for hvac. Got to be one of those that's leaking vacuum.

Not that I've had any experience with TPI, but since you've got 'rich' problems too I would lay odds on faulty fpr.
