1991 IROC-Z Engine questions
1991 IROC-Z Engine questions
Alright so we're getting a totaled 1991 IROC-Z with a 350, just over 100k miles, it's parts, poor thing is done for, I call it the IROC-Tree, 'cause it hit something the shape of a tree doing about sixty. We're mostly getting it 'cause the body kit is bunged up on my RS, my brother wants the interior for his RS, as well as the rear window defroster, and I want the power pull down hatch as well as some interior panels for my RS, so basically the car is getting parted to restore / add features too two other cars. As well as give a new heart to my station wagon.
Anyway, questions about the 350 in the IROC-Z are for swapping it into my 1986 Oldsmobile Custom Cruiser. The 350 has just over 100k miles, solid trans, runs like a champ. Would drive if one of the wheels wasn't pinned by the fender support.
I know, I know, you're thinking "Put it in your third gen, not that station wagon!". But, I do not need, nor want two gas guzzlers, I have no interest in removing the V6 from my third gen. I can run that car on a tank of gas all over town for weeks, I don't do any racing, track related stuff, it's just a run about, so is my wagon, but the 307 in my wagon is under powered.
So, if you're willing to help, maybe you could tell me a few things,
Can I swap the intake and make this a carb motor, or do you know of a good ECM for this thing so I could keep the TBI?
The alternator, since these cars have serpentine belts, can I put on an alternator from something that does not have serpentine belts or an ECM? Or can I just use the existing alternator ECM-less?
Fan, the poor IROC had a electric fan, my wagon has a mechanical fan, can I bolt a mechanical fan to this 350? If not, I'll just get a fan from Jeggs and run it on some accessory fuse so it's on with the ignition until I can afford a controller.
Also are there any other things I should know about this motor? Thanks for the info in advance, this motor swap will hopefully happen spring of 2013, we won't be getting the car till the fall, and I ain't swapping a motor in the winter!
