car wont start but backfires(urgent)
its an 89 with an l98 I just went to replace my spark plug wires and im injured so i can only use one arm and during the clusterf**k of trying to get a wire off the cap a few came off and i have no idea from where i got a diagram off another post, and my entire firing order was wrong, i redid everything and now it just cranks and backfires, I know its a timing issue I just need to get it running to get it to my mechanics shop so he can set the timing correctly, the car was owned by idiots before I got ahold of her, so there is no telling what they did

Was it running before you worked on the wires? If not you may have a bad cap/rotor. You may have the right firing order but you may not have started at No 1,went in the right rotation, or mixed the wires that came off. Re check that wiring diagram.

Bring it up to TDC and see if your rotor is pointed at # 1 or #6... if it isn't you may have a timing belt problem.

Firing order is 18436572. 135 and 7 are down the driver's side, 246 and 8 are the passenger side. If you didn't rotate the distributor or yank so many off you lost track of the #1 plug wire post then you just mixed up a couple of wires.
